DNO & MCS Applications

Let Us Take Care of the Paperwork

DNO and MCS administration can be time-consuming, particularly when you're busy designing systems, completing installations and dealing with customers. We can provide DNO and MCS application support for renewable energy installers, electrical contractors, businesses and customers, helping take some of that paperwork off your hands.

Whether you need assistance with one application or ongoing support across multiple installations, we can help with the documentation associated with Solar PV, Battery Storage and other applicable renewable technologies.

From G98 notifications and G99 applications to G100 export limitation documentation and MCS administration, we can help prepare and submit the required information using the installation and system details provided to us.

Already completed an installation but still have outstanding paperwork? We can help with that too. We can review the information available, identify what may still be required and help get the relevant paperwork moving.

Our aim is simple: You concentrate on the installation — We'll take care of the paperwork.

Need Help With an Application?

Whether you have one application that's causing a headache or a regular stream of installations, Renewable Fitting Company can help.

Send us the details of the installation and let us know what stage you're at. We can review the information available, establish what's still required and explain how we can assist.

Spend less time on paperwork and more time getting installations completed.

Not Sure What It All Means?

If you've come across terms such as DNO, G98, G99, G100 or MCS and aren't quite sure what they mean, we've kept the explanations simple below.

A Distribution Network Operator (DNO) is the company responsible for the electricity distribution network in your area.

Renewable generation such as Solar PV and Battery Storage may need to be notified to or approved by the DNO, depending on the type and size of the system.

Timescales depend on the type of application, local DNO and complexity of the installation.

A G98 is normally a post-installation notification, whereas G99 applications requiring prior approval can take longer. Some Fast Track routes aim to provide a response in around 10 working days, while more involved applications can take several weeks.

Where prior approval is required, we recommend starting the DNO process as early as possible to help avoid delaying the installation.

G98 generally covers smaller generation systems of 16 A per phase or less — approximately 3.68 kW on a single-phase supply.

For qualifying systems, the installation can normally be connected first and the DNO notified after commissioning, subject to the G98 requirements.

G99 generally applies where generation exceeds the G98 limit of 16 A per phase, or where the installation doesn't otherwise qualify for G98.

For example, a 5 kW single-phase inverter produces around 21.7 A at its rated output, putting it above the 16 A G98 threshold and therefore normally within G99.

Unlike a standard G98 installation, DNO approval is generally required before the system is connected and commissioned.

G100 relates to export limitation. It covers systems that automatically control how much electricity a property can export to the electricity network.

For example, a system may be capable of generating more electricity than the DNO has agreed can be exported, with a G100-compliant export limitation scheme controlling the maximum export.

G100-compliant export limitation can also form part of certain G99 Fast Track application routes, where available and accepted by the local DNO.

An MCS certificate provides a recognised record that an eligible renewable energy installation has been registered under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme by an MCS-certified contractor.

It can also be important when applying for schemes such as the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) for eligible renewable electricity exported to the grid.
